Montenegro is a beutiful tiny European country that has great wonders on its small territory. It is a mixture of fascinating beauty of untouched nature, and rich cultural heritage that was made over a thousand years of the country’s history. Have you ever wanted to visit the greatest canyon in Europe, and second in the world? Or maybe one of the last European rainforests, or the most beautiful bay in the Mediterranean, with the town of Kotor, which is under UNESCO protection, or maybe the biggest lake in the South-Eastern Europe and biggest birds reservat, or beautiful mountains, of which some are under the snow, even in summer, and many mountain’s lakes, which are, together with the whole region of National park, under UNESCO protection; or maybe beutiful long sandy beaches and old towns on the sea, or ethno- villages in ecological Montenegro on the north, and a lots of other things... ? And all of that is only from 2 to 3 hours of drive from each other! I am are sure that only one visit to this country, will make clear why Montenegro is a unique tourist brand in the world.
Not only an excellent choice for holidays, Montenegro has many other remarkable characteristics: history, culture, tradition, good weather conditions, clean air, beautiful nature, the blue Adriatic Sea.... Everyone should visit Montenegro. This little country combines features of both the Balkans and the Mediterranean, near Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Italy and Albania.
Even though it covers only 14,000 km2 and has about 670,000 citizens, its contribution to the cultural heritage of the world is impressive.
In one day, the curious traveler can have a coffee on one of the numerous beaches of the Budva Riviera, eat lunch with the song of the birds on Skardar Lake and dine next to a fireplace on the slopes of the Durmitor Mountain. These are all characteristics of Montenegro as a tourist destination that has a lot to offer.
The blue sea with endless beaches, restless waters of the clear rivers and beautiful mountain massifs, mixed with the spirit of the old times, have given Montenegro everything one needs for an unforgettable vacation.
Montenegro has an abundance of towns that were developed through the centuries. Although they may look alike at first sight, once you get to know them a bit better, with their traditions and customs, they can bring out the curiosity in everyone who wishes to explore them in more detail.
Montenegro is divided into three regions: coastal, central and mountain, each one of these gave some special characteristics to its towns.
Coast cities : Ulcinj, Bar, Budva, T
Central cities : Podgorica, Niksic, Ce
Mountain cities : Kolasin, Mojkovac, Bijelo Polje, Plav
The coastal towns create an impression of the sleeping beauties that don't lose any of their exquisiteness despite the century’s long sleep. Rich in architectural details from the ancient times, on the inside and outside of the buildings, one can not leave indifferent; with the whisper of the waves, these towns invite you to come back again.
The towns of the central region are rich in historical and cultural monuments and tell the stories of the glorious victories against the armies that tried to occupy these regions. The contemporary spirit can be noted all around and contributes to the development of these economic and cultural centers into the real tourist metropolises.
Towns in the northern part of Montenegro are dedicated to the development of winter tourism and this commitment is more obvious every day. These small towns, with their specific charm and mountain architecture, small rural households and healthy food, are becoming increasingly attractive to the tourists.
Budva is the metropolis of Montenegrin tourism thanks to the great number of beaches that make this a most desirable tourist destination. Apart from its natural beauty, its bay islands and beaches for example, Budva is rich in historic monuments. The Old town lies on a small peninsula and represents a treasure chest of culture heritage. Crossed with narrow streets and squares are famous buildings, the Church Sv. Trojica, housing the tomb of the exquisite writer Stjepan Mitrov Ljubisa, the Churches of Sv. Ivan, Sv. Bogorodica and Sv. Sava. During the summer months it turns into a City Theatre with numerous local performances and shows from abroad. In the Stari Grad (Old town) you can also visit many shops, cafés, restaurants and galleries. Monasteries Stanjevici, Podostrog, Rezevici and Gradiste are important historic and religious monuments of Budva.
Montenegro is connected to the world through road, railway, maritime and air transportation. There are two airports in Montenegro. One is located in the capital city –Podgorica, and the other one is on the coast, near the town of Tivat.
