The Three Sectors of the Economy

The economic infrastructure includes three sectors: the primary sector, the secondary sector and the tertiary sector. The primary sector consists of agriculture and the extraction of raw materials from the earth. The secondary sector involves manufacturing industry, in which raw materials are turned into finished products. Of course many of the people working for manufacturing companies don't actually make anything, but provide a service. The tertiary sector includes the commercial services that help industry produce and distribute goods to the final consumers. A large member of operations belong to different sectors of the economy. Digging iron ore, mining coal, farming, fishing and forestry are the primary sector. Other secondary sector activities include assembling, building, smelting iron, milling metal, pressing metal, welding metal. The tertiary sector includes advertising products, distributing added value, calculating prices, maintenance, marketing products, pumping oil, transportation, financing, designing and retailing. When we speak about manufacturing we mean aerospace, computer hardware, cars, construction, defence, textiles and so on. Services include catering, computer software, financial services, property, retail, healthcare, tourism and etc. Two hundred years ago, the vast majority of the population of virtually every country lived in the countryside and worked in agriculture. Today, in what many people call "the advanced industrialized countries", only 2-3% of the population earn their living from agriculture. But some people already talk about "the post industrial countries", because of the growth of service industries, and the decline of manufacturing, which is moving to "the developing countries". The well-known Canadian economist John K. Galbraith thinks that the decline of manufacturing in "the advanced industrialized countries" is inevitable. People worry about it because they are afraid of unemployment. The economist names the activities which are as important as the production of goods. The-'are the arts, entertainment, music, amusement. He is sure people shouldn't worry about it as it is impossible to stop this progressive, natural and inevitable development. Denis MacShane, a British Member of Parliament quite clearly disagrees with Galbraith. He thinks that manufacturing has a future because there are many new products that have to be invented to serve new needs. He believes in manufacturing in the advanced countries because these countries have production technology that requires very little labour input. However this manufacturing is unlikely to solve the problem of unemployment precisely because it requires very little labour input.

As for me I think

I intend to work in (what company, what sector).
