Robert Patterson

Robert Pattinson was born on May 13, 1986, in London, England. His mother worked for a modelling agency, and his father imported vintage1 cars from the U.S.

As a child, the Hollywood heartthrob was quite the troublemaker, getting expelled from school at the age of 12, stating once in an interview that he was “quite bad.” At that time, he began his modelling career, but it wound down only four years later. At the age of 15, he discovered his talent for acting after joining the Barnes Theatre Company in London, where he landed roles in amateur plays.          A passion for theatre is not what led Robert to take up acting as a hobby. R Pattz, as his fans call him, explained in an interview, “I started doing plays when I was about 15 or 16. I only did it because my dad saw a bunch of pretty girls in a restaurant and he asked them where they came from and they said drama group. He said ‘Son, that is where you need to go.
From that point on, Robert focused most of his energy into his new found passion, taking on a few small movie roles. He had supporting roles in the made for television film Ring of the Nibelungs in 2004 and in Vanity Fair, although his scenes in the latter were deleted, and only appear on the DVD version.               But it wasn’t until he met Mike Newell, the director of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) that he really caught his big break. A week after their introduction, Robert was offered the role of Cedric Diggory, which he reprised in the next instalment of Harry Potter, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). Consequently, he was named British Star of Tomorrow by Times Online. He also has more than once been touted as the next Jude Law.           Robert basked for a bit in the glow of the fame that came from his role in the two Harry Potter films, explaining his initial reaction in an interview: “Someone asked for my autograph the other day which is quite cool. But, I don’t know. I hope Pottermania doesn’t make me not come out of my house, because I barely come out of my house as it is!”              Little did he know he was about to land the role of Edward Cullen in the highly anticipated flick, Twilight (2008), based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novel of the same name. The role has launched him from small-scale celebrity to full-blown Hollywood A-lister before the film has even hit theatres! He is set to reprise his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight sequel, New Moon. He also had a lead role in a British comedy How To Be.              Robert Pattinson, who now has a massive female (and male) following, has no where to go but up. His other upcoming film, Little Ashes, in which he’ll be playing artist Salvador Dali, is scheduled to be released in the UK in 2009. It has already been receiving rave reviews from those who have been lucky enough to take in a screening.                Now Robert is just living his life, trying to stay true to the person he was before being slapped with the label of Hollywood heartthrob. Always the music enthusiast and skilled pianist/guitarist, Robert is continuing to perform his music, and has even contributed an original track to Twilight’s musical score.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie has starred in thrillers like The Bone Collector (1999) and Taking Lives (2004), as well as blockbusters such as Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000), Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), A Mighty Heart (2007), and Wanted (2008). She’s also famous for her well-documented relationships to Billy Bob Thornton and Brad Pitt. Unfortunately, Angelina Jolie’s highly publicized antics attracted more attention than her movie roles for many years.

Angelina Jolie Voight was born on June 4, 1975, to Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight and actress Marcheline Bertrand. At age 11, four years after making her film debut opposite her father in Lookin’ to Get Out, Angelina Jolie began studying acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Although her dream as a child was actually to become a funeral director, 16-year-old Angelina Jolie worked as a professional model in London, New York and Los Angeles. Musical groups and singers such as the Rolling Stones, Lemonheads, Meatloaf, and Lenny Kravitz cast her in their music videos, and even her brother James Haven Voight directed her in his student films for the University of Southern California School of Cinema.           Wishing to get even closer to pursuing an acting career, Jolie studied at L.A.’s MET Theatre Company, which also counts Ed Harris and Holly Hunter among its alumni.               Angelina Jolie’s first foray into film was of a sci-fi nature, with a supporting role in 1993’s Cyborg 2, which didn’t even make it to the big screen, and a lead role in Hackers (1995) where she met her future ex-husband, British actor Jonny Lee Miller of Trainspotting fame. They were separated within the year and filed for divorce in 1999.                Angelina Jolie’s career as an actress, however, was flying high. She received critical acclaim for Without Evidence in which she portrayed a drug-addicted teen, as well as for her roles as a rebellious teen known as Legs in Foxfire (1996) and as an Italian girl in love with the son of her family’s rival in Love Is All There Is (1996). In 1997, she had a supporting role in the box office bomb Playing God, starring David Duchovny and Timothy Hutton.

Angelina Jolie’s television roles were what gained her the ultimate respect of critics. She was honored with a 1997 Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe Award and an Emmy nomination for her role as Cornelia Wallace in the TV movie George Wallace, costarring Gary Sinise. But the best was yet to come for Angelina Jolie.  She won her second Golden Globe for her role as model Gia Carangi in HBO’s biopic Gia. Her intense portrayal of the drug-addicted model who was diagnosed with AIDS was highly deserving of the Best Actress Golden Globe and Emmy nomination.    On the big screen, Angelina Jolie was well-received by audiences for her role in 1998’s Playing By Heart with Sean Connery, Gillian Anderson and Ryan Phillippe. She also played Billy Bob Thornton’s seductive wife in 1999’s Pushing Tin and starred opposite big-leaguer Denzel Washington in the thriller The Bone Collector later that year.           However, it was her supporting role in 1999’s Girl, Interrupted that showed audiences her dramatic skills, garnering her a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Angelina Jolie created controversy when she showed up at the Oscars with her brother James and kissed him as though he was her boyfriend.
In 2000, Angelina Jolie eloped with her Pushing Tin costar Billy Bob Thornton, but after they adopted a Cambodian boy named Maddox Chivan Thornton Jolie in 2002, their marriage fell apart and they filed for divorce. While it lasted, their marriage was the subject of much tabloid fodder; the eccentric couple carried vials of each other’s blood around their necks and were prone to public displays of affection.

In 2001, Angelina Jolie was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.          During that time, Angelina Jolie also starred in a slew of films, including Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) with Nicolas Cage, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), for which Angelina is proud to say she did her own stunts, Original Sin (2001) with Antonio Banderas, Life Or Something Like It (2002), Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003), and Beyond Borders (2003).
In 2004, Angelina Jolie was busy starring in Taking Lives, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, CGI animated comedy Shark Tale, and as Olympias in Oliver Stone’s Alexander.              After Angelina Jolie starred alongside Brad Pitt in the romantic comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), rumors began circulating that the two were an item, even though Brad was in the process of separating from his wife, Jennifer Aniston.
Although the pair denied the rumors, pictures of them playing with little Maddox on the beach in Kenya emerged in April 2005, and several more tabloid photos in the months that followed confirmed they were an item.
On July 6, 2005, Angelina Jolie adopted her second child, a 6-month-old girl named Zahara Marley from Ethiopia. Months later, it was revealed that Brad and Angelina had made the decision to adopt Zahara together. Just eight days later, Brad’s request to legally adopt Maddox and Zahara went through, and their last names were changed to Jolie-Pitt.           After much media attention, on May 27, 2006, Angelina gave birth to Brad Pitt’s child, a girl named Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, in Namibia.
Among all the action in her personal life, Angelina Jolie amazingly managed toget some work done. In 2006, she appeared in the Robert De Niro-directed The Good Shepherd.                 In March 2007, Angelina Jolie adopted a 3-year-old boy from Vietnam, Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt, who was born on November 29, 2003, and was abandoned at birth at a local hospital. Angelina named him Pax, which was suggested by her mother before she passed away. The year 2007 was another jam-packed year for this busy mom. She appeared in A Mighty Heart /Её сердце/ as well as did voice work alongside Anthony Hopkins in Beowulf. She was also named one of the Entertainers Of The Year by Entertainment Weekly.            Angelina Jolie “unofficially” announced she was pregnant by wearing a form-fitting dress at the 2008 Independent Spirit Awards, indirectly confirming the rumors circulating that she was with child31. In July she gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl.                That year, Angelina Jolie was involved in several film projects, including Wanted starring Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy, Kung Fu Panda and Changeling.

The 19th-century scholar and educationalist J S Blackie summed up Burns importance to Scotland and the Scots with the words When Scotland forgets Burns then history will forget Scotland

Robert Burns has been a landmark in Scotland's national history and identity The ploughman poet the national bard the man of the people, the lover of the good life are only a few of the characteristics that have been attributed to Burns who is definitely the best loved Scottish poet, admired not only for his fascinating work but also for his extraordinary life

Burns will remain in our mernqry for many reasons but most of all because through his poems he asked us to embrace his dream of true brotherhood and celebrate our common humanity From being an opponent to the slave trade to being a member of the Freemasons society, his fight against social inequalities and pursuit of justice for ail people played a key role in his life

But apart from his strong devotion to the common good he was also famous for his character, his high spirits his hard dnnktng and his passion for the lasses, which is quite obvious in most of his poems

Born on January 25, 1759, he was the son of a farmer and grew up in a small cottage in the village of Ailoway near Ayr He lived a childhood of demanding physical work and poverty through which he experienced and developed his acute awareness of the social injustices around him

From his first works From his first works in April 1786 his talent became obvious and by his mid 20s he was already an accomplished poet and songwriter in his native Scottisn Dialect Some of his first works include The Cotter's Saturday Night', 'To a Mouse' and To a Mountain Daisy," which earned him much critical acclaim Poems such as Tam О Shanter' Holy Willie's Prayer1 and others established him as Scotland's national poet One of the most famous songs of the world today, "Auld Lang Syne" is also written by him and sung every New Year's Eve

Burns died at the age of 37 of rheumatic fever, but has always been remembered as one of Scotland s most important gifts to the world and his poems and songs are still as popular as they were when first written After his death, his closest friends started the ritual of the Burns night which has remained largely unchanged today, celebrating his legend alive.

Burns Supper

So, lets pay tribute to him, as he so highly deserves, on this significant anniversary, along with countless people all around the globe No doubt if he were alive today, he would have joined us in the celebrations with a wee dram himself

There are guidelines and observances to be followed and traditionally, guests at the Supper are involved in these observances helping to make it a great event

Although many believe that Burns Suppers which traditionally take place every year on the 25th of January, should be conducted in the old conventional way, today Burns Suppers take on many different forms, styles and varieties, ranging from formal gatherings of dedicated Burns fans and academics to informal parties which feature a more modern or unusual twist to the celebrations The majority of Burns Suppers sit somewhere in the middle following the basic guidelines of the night, but also the hosts persona! taste and unique character
