SUMMARY 102
[Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences],

[Hoffman, Dustin]. Academy Award.

GOOD CHARLOTTE is the hottest rock band in the US, and now the rest of the world is falling for their irresistible punk-pop tunes. Their single «Lifestyles of the rich and famous» has won them acclaim in Europe, Asia and Australia.
FACT FILE
Formed: 1996. Members: Benji Madden (singer/guitarist), Joel Madden (lead singer), Paul Thomas (bass player), Billy Martin (guitarist), Chris Wilson, the newest member (drum player).
Good Charlotte's success is built on the relationship of its two front men, twin brothers Benji and Joel.
Benji and Joel grew up in Waldorf, Maryland and don't remember their high school days with affection. «Kids made fun of us for being poor», recalls Benji. «Kids can be cruel It makes you tough, though».
The brothers left the family home at 16, after their father walked out on them. «There was nothing there for me and Benji», says Joel. «We were in a pretty rough situation there and we weren't happy». So the boys packed their stuff, took off and got jobs. Joel worked in a hair salon washing people's hair. Benji unloaded trucks.
Inspired by Nirvana and Green Day, the twins formed the group, naming themselves after a children's book, «just because it sounded cool at the time».
No one knows Benji and Joel better than band names Billy and Paul. They've been in Good Charlotte since the very beginning, and the four form one tight unit.
«We met in high school and they seemed like nice guys», says Paul. «Joel liked my sister and they went out on a couple of dates together. But he wasn't good enough for her so she dumped him».
«The first time I met Benji and Joel was in a coffee shop where they lived», recalls Billy. «They've only been living there for a couple of weeks and I heard them playing these songs and I really liked them. I was in another band at that time, but we talked about playing shows together. We pretty much

became friends in a week».
Good Charlotte had almost no money for equipment and no connections in the industry. They cut their first demo, wrote their own bio and began sending letters to different record companies. Hopefully, they attracted the interest of Epic Records, and in 2000, their self-titled first album came out. It became an immediate success in the US. With «The Young and the Hopeless» they've gone global.
The band's good looks have earned them rock pin-up status. But the boys are too modest to admit it. «We're not that band», Joel says. «When girls scream at us or whatever, we just think they must have the wrong band. When you think of a pin-up, you think of some, one like Robbie Williams, not us!»
In their black uniform, with wild hair, dark eye make-up and facial piercings, the band sometimes looks unapproachable, even menacing. In fact, they are extremely polite sweet boys, all «please's and thank you's». «Everybody says that», admits Joel. «We're the nicest guys in the world».
INTERESTING FACTS:
Benji's real hair colour is brown.
Joel is fond of cooking.
Paul writes poetry.
Billy has 3 cats, 3 dogs and 127 hamsters. He is a vegetarian.
Chris Wilson is the quietest member of the band.

Е. В. White «Charlotte's Web/Stuart Little Slipcase Gift Set». Издательство: Harper Collins. 2004 г.
This is the first children's book by the distinguished author E. B. White. Stuart Little, the hero, is a mouse in the family of Frederick С Little and is a debonair little character with a shy, engaging manner and a somewhat philosophical turn of mind. He is a great help around the house, and everybody except Snowbell the cat likes him a great deal. In spite of his small size, Stuart gets around in the world, riding a Fifth Avenue bus, racing (and winning in) a sailboat in Central Park, teaching school for a day, and so on. His size - just over two inches - does give him some trouble now and then, like the time he was rolled up in the window shade, or when he got dumped into a garbage scow. But on the whole his life is a happy one. His great adventure comes when, at the age of seven, he sets out in the world to seek his dearest friend, Margalo, a beautiful little bird who stayed for a few days in the Littles' Boston fern. It is on this search that we leave Stuart, going north in his little car, sure he is heading in the right direction.
Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous
Always see it on TV,
Or read it in the magazines,
Celebrities who want sympathy,
All they do is piss and moan,
Inside the Rolling Stone1,
Talkin' about,
How hard life can be,
I'd like to see them spend a week,
Living life out on the streets,
I don't think they would survive,
If they could spend a day or two,
Walking in someone else's shoes,
I think they'd stumble and they'd fall,
They would fall,
Lifestyles of the rich and famous,
They're always complainin',
complainin',
If money is such a problem,
Well they got mansions,
Think we should rob them,
Did you know if you were famous you
your wife,
And there's no such thing as 25 to life, As long as you got the cash to pay for Cochran, Did you know if you were caught, And you were smokin' crack2, McDonalds wouldn't even take you back, You could always just run for mayor of D.C3. I'd like to see them spend a week, Living life out on the streets, I don't think they would survive, If they could spend a day or two, Walking in someone else's shoes, I think they'd stumble and they'd fall, They would fall,
Lifestyles of the rich and famous, They're always complainin', always complainin', always If money is such a problem, Well they got mansions, Think we should rob them, Lifestyles of the rich and famous, We'll take clothes, cash, cars, and homes, could kill Just stop complainin',
Lifestyles of the rich and famous, Lifestyles of the rich and famous, Lifestyles of the rich and famous.
1 The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in 1962 in London when multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones and pianist Ian Stewart were joined by vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards. Bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts completed the early line-up. Stewart, deemed unsuitable as a teen idol, was removed from the official line-up in 1963 but continued to work with the band as road manager and keyboardist until his death in 1985.
Early in the band's history Jagger and Richards formed a songwriting partnership and gradually took over leadership of the band from the increasingly troubled and erratic Jones. At first the group recorded mainly covers of American blues and R&B songs, but since the 1966 album Aftermath, their releases have mainly featured Jagger/Richards songs. Mick Taylor replaced an incapacitated Jones shortly before Jones's death in 1969. Taylor quit in 1974, and was replaced in 1975 by Faces guitarist Ronnie Wood, who has remained with the band ever since. Wyman left the Rolling Stones in 1992; bassist Darryl Jones, who is not an official band member, has worked with the group since 1994.
First popular in the UK and Europe, The Rolling Stones came to the US during the early 1960s «British Invasion». The Rolling Stones have released 22 studio albums in the UK (24 in the US), eight concert albums (nine in the US) and numerous compilations; and have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide. Sticky Fingers (1971) began a string of eight consecutive studio albums that charted at number one in the United States. Their latest album, A Bigger Bang, was released in 2005. In 1989 The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2004 they were ranked number 4 in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Their image of unkempt and surly youth is one that many musicians still emulate.

3 Washington, D.C. (pronounced /DwDDDntsn DdiDDsiD/), formally
the District of Columbia and commonly
referred to as Washington, the District, or simply D.C, is the capital
of the United States, founded on July 16, 1790.
The City of Washington was originally a separate municipality within
the Territory of Columbia until an act of
Congress in 1871 effectively merged the City and the Territory into
a single entity called the District of Columbia. It is
for this reason that the city, while legally named the District of Columbia,
is known as Washington, D.C. The city is
located on the north bank of the Potomac River and is bordered by the
states of Virginia to the southwest and Maryland
to the other sides. The District has a resident population of 591,833;
however, because of commuters from the
surrounding suburbs, its population rises to over one million during
the workweek. The Washington Metropolitan Area,
of which the District is a part, has a population of 5.3 million, the
ninth-largest metropolitan area in the country.

All Black («Good Charlotte»)
[Chorus:]
Take a look at my life, all black
Take a look at my clothes, all black
Like Johnny Cash4, all black
Like The Rolling Stones wanna paint it black
Like the night that we met, all black
Like the colour of your dress, all black
Like the seats in my Cadillac5
I used to see red, now it's just all black
As long as I could remember I dreamed in black
and white
As I grew up and the sun went down, I never felt
m *re alright
My mother she use to tell me: Son you better get
to church
It's a dark, dark world and it's evil out there
and you know it's only getting worse
Yeah, never been much for weddings or
anniversaries but
I go to a funeral if I'm invited any day of the
week
Some people say that I sound strange some say
that I'm not right
But I find beauty in this world every single night
[Chorus:]
I sat down at her table at the end of the night
She was having black coffee and a cigarette, she
wusn't wearing white
She said, people tell me that I am strange they
say that I am not right
She said, the only time I feel alright is in the
dead of night
I think I found the one for me
[Chorus:]
I remember feeling so alive The night I look into her eyes [Chorus:]

4 Johnny Cash (1932 - 2003) was an American singer-songwriter and one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Primarily a country music artist, his songs and sound spanned many other genres including rockabilly and rock and roll (especially early in his career), as well as blues, folk and gospel. Cash was known for his deep, distinctive
The Anthem («Good Charlotte»)
It's a new day, but it all feels old It's a good life, that's what I'm told But everything, it all just feels the same
And my high school, it felt more to me
Like a jail cell, a penitentiary
My time spent there, it only made me see
That I don't ever wanna be like you I don't wanna do the things you do I'm never gonna hear The words you say
'Cause I don't ever wanna, I don't ever wanna be
[Chorus:]
You...don't wanna be just like you What I'm sayin' is this is the anthem T^row all your hands up, you, Don't wanna be you
"Go to college, a university,
Get a real job,"
That's what they said to me
But I could never live the way they want
I'm gonna get by and just do my time,
Out of step while they all get in line
I'm just a minor threat
So pay no mind
Do you really wanna be like them,
Do you really wanna be another trend?
Do you wanna be part of their crowd?
'Cause I don't ever wanna, no I don't ever wanna
be
[Chorus]
Shake it once, that's fine
Shake it twice, that's okay
Shake it three times, you're playing with
bass-baritone voice, the "chicka-boom" freight train sound of his Tennessee Three backing band, his demeanour, and his dark clothing, which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black".
Much of Cash's music, especially that of his later career, echoed themes of sorrow, moral tribulation and redemption. His signature songs include "I Walk the Line", "Folsom Prison Blues", "Ring of Fire", "Get Rhythm" and "Man in Black". He also recorded humorous songs, such as "One Piece at a Time" and "A Boy Named Sue", a duet with June Carter called "Jackson", as well as railroad songs such as "Hey Porter" and "Rock Island Line."
